Offline-First Design

MiseMate stores your recipes, grocery lists, pantry items, meal plans, and gamification progress locally on your device by default. Core functionality such as saved recipes, ingredient scaling, and grocery lists works without an internet connection. Online features like recipe search, AI assistant, and recipe import require internet access when used.

Data Stored Locally

• Recipes you save, create, or import (title, ingredients, steps, images).
• Grocery lists, checked-off items, and list history.
• Pantry items and expiry dates.
• Meal plans and calendar entries.
• Cooking streaks, XP, level progress, badges, and challenge completion.
• Dietary preferences, allergies, and household size.
• App preferences (theme, units, notification settings).

Online Features

• Recipe search queries sent to the Edamam API to return recipe results and nutrition data.
• Recipe URLs you choose to import, processed to extract recipe content.
• Messages you send to the AI cooking assistant, processed by Anthropic's Claude API.
• Photos you choose to scan for recipe identification, processed via AI.
• Approximate location (if permitted) for location-based recipe suggestions.

iCloud Sync (Optional)

• If you enable iCloud Sync, your recipes, grocery lists, pantry, and meal plans are synced across your devices using Apple CloudKit.
• This data is stored in your personal iCloud account and governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
• We do not have access to your iCloud data.

How We Use Your Data

• Core Functionality: To store recipes, scale ingredients, manage grocery lists, track your pantry, and display your meal plan.
• Recipe Search: To query the Edamam API and return recipe results with nutrition data.
• AI Assistant: To provide recipe suggestions, ingredient substitutions, and cooking guidance via Claude AI.
• Recipe Import: To extract recipe data from URLs or photos you provide.
• Notifications: To send grocery reminders, pantry expiry alerts, and meal plan notifications.
• Gamification: To calculate XP, level progress, streaks, and badges \u{2014} all processed locally on device.
• iCloud Sync: To sync your data across Apple devices, only if you opt in.

Data We Do NOT Collect

• We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for advertising.
• We do not track your behavior or usage patterns with analytics services.
• We do not display advertisements.
• We do not require account creation or collect email addresses for core functionality.
• We do not store your AI conversations on our servers after processing.

Third-Party Services

• Edamam API \u{2014} Recipe search and nutrition data.
• Anthropic Claude API \u{2014} AI-powered recipe suggestions, substitutions, and cooking assistance.
• Apple CloudKit \u{2014} iCloud Sync for Premium users who opt in.
• Apple StoreKit / RevenueCat \u{2014} In-app purchase and subscription management.
• Apple Push Notification Service (APNs) \u{2014} Local and push notifications for reminders.

Your Rights

• Access all your data \u{2014} it is stored locally on your device and fully visible in the app.
• Delete any or all data at any time by removing recipes, lists, or deleting the app.
• Opt out of push notifications via iOS Settings.
• Disable iCloud Sync at any time in Settings.
• Revoke location permission at any time via iOS Settings.
• Control AI features \u{2014} the AI assistant is optional and used only when you choose.

Children’s Privacy

MiseMate is rated 4+ and does not collect personal information from any users, including children. No account or personal information is required to use the app.

Data Retention

All data is stored on your device and retained for as long as you keep the app installed. We do not retain user data on external servers beyond what is necessary to process real-time requests. If you uninstall the app, all local data is permanently removed.

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
