SplitSnap ("we", "our", or "the app") is an AI-powered bill splitter for iOS. Your privacy is important to us. This policy explains what data we handle, how we use it, and your rights.
SplitSnap does not require account creation. Your split history is stored locally on your device by default. Receipt images sent for AI processing are discarded immediately after the items are extracted.
Data Stored Locally
- Split sessions you create (items, people, amounts, assignments).
- Split history and re-share cards.
- Saved people and groups from prior splits.
- App preferences (default tax, default tip, currency, theme).
- Imported contact names you choose to add to a split.
Receipt Images & AI Processing
- Receipt photos and imported screenshots are sent to our backend, which proxies them to Anthropic's Claude Haiku Vision API to extract items and prices.
- Images are processed in real time and are NOT stored on our servers or Anthropic's servers after the response is returned.
- The extracted structured data (item names, prices, totals) is returned to your device where it lives in your local split history.
- When no internet is available, scanning falls back to on-device Apple VisionKit OCR — no data leaves your device.
iCloud Sync (Optional)
- If you enable iCloud Sync (Pro feature), your split history is synced across your devices using Apple CloudKit.
- This data is stored in your personal iCloud account and governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
- We do not have access to your iCloud data.
How We Use Your Data
- Core Functionality: To extract items from receipts, calculate splits, distribute tax and tip, and generate shareable cards.
- Split History: Stored locally so you can re-share a split or look up past amounts.
- Contacts (Optional): To let you add friends' names to a split quickly — contact data never leaves your device.
- Subscription: To manage Pro entitlements via Apple StoreKit and RevenueCat.
Data We Do NOT Collect
- We do not require an email address, phone number, or account to use the app.
- We do not collect financial account numbers, bank details, or credit card numbers.
- We do not run behavioral tracking or advertising analytics.
- We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties for marketing.
- We do not retain receipt images on any server after processing.
Third-Party Services
- Anthropic Claude API (Haiku Vision) — Real-time receipt item extraction. Images are not retained after processing.
- Apple VisionKit — On-device OCR fallback when offline.
- Apple CloudKit — iCloud Sync for Pro users who opt in.
- Apple StoreKit / RevenueCat — In-app purchase and subscription management.
- Apple Push Notification Service (APNs) — Local notifications only.
Your Rights
- All your split data is stored locally on your device and fully visible in the app.
- Delete any split or all splits at any time from the History tab.
- Deleting the app removes all local data.
- Revoke camera, photos, and contacts permission at any time via iOS Settings.
- Disable iCloud Sync at any time in Settings.
Children’s Privacy
SplitSnap is rated 4+ and does not collect personal information from any users, including children. No account or personal information is required to use the app.
Data Retention
All split data is stored on your device and retained for as long as you keep the app installed. Receipt images are discarded immediately after AI processing and are never retained on external servers. If you uninstall the app, all local data is permanently removed.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
